In times of uncertainty, it’s natural to worry about what the future may hold. However, excessive worrying can be detrimental to our mental health, productivity and overall well-being. As a success coach, I understand the impact that worrying can have on individuals, especially business owners and leaders. In this blog post, we’ll explore tips on how to stop worrying and start focusing on what’s necessary to move forward.
Tip #1: Notice and Recognise Worry
The first step in managing worry is to recognise it. Worrying is often a signal from our body that there’s something happening that we need to pay attention to. By noticing and recognising worry, we can become more aware of the underlying issues that may be causing it. This will allow us to take the necessary steps to address them.
Tip #2: Get Clear on What You’re Worrying About
When we worry, our thoughts tend to run around in circles. It’s essential to get clear on what exactly we’re worrying about. By identifying the specific problem or problems, we can start to break them down into manageable pieces. This will help us to gain a clearer understanding of what we’re up against and what needs to be done to move forward.
Tip #3: Determine the Likelihood of What You’re Worried About Happening
It’s essential to ask ourselves whether what we’re worrying about is likely to happen. By considering the likelihood of a situation occurring, we can gain a more realistic perspective on our worries. If we realise that what we’re worrying about is unlikely to happen, we can make a conscious decision to stop worrying and focus on what’s necessary.
Tip #4: Decide on Control of the Situation
When we worry, it’s crucial to determine whether the situation is within or outside of our control. If we can control the situation, we can take action to prevent the problem from occurring. If it’s outside of our control, we can make a plan for how we’ll address the outcome if it actually happens.
Tip #5: Create a Plan to Address the Situation
Once we’ve identified the specific problem or problems, determined the likelihood of them occurring, and decided on the control of the situation, it’s essential to create a plan of action. Based on what we can control, we can create a plan to either prevent the problem or reduce the likelihood of a situation happening. If the situation is outside of our control, we can create a plan for how we’ll address the outcome if it actually happens.
