The main attribute of every successful person is optimism.

Have you ever noticed how your thoughts and words impact on what you do (or don’t do) and the results you get?

The way we speak to ourselves and the images we create in our minds can either hold us back or propel us into action, so that we progress in business and life.

You might question how positive thinking actually helps you succeed and how changing your thoughts and adopting a positive mindset can help you succeed faster. Let’s look at that now…

The Power of Positive Thinking:

Numerous studies have proven that maintaining a positive attitude leads to generating positive ideas, which is essential for progress. When our minds are filled with positive thoughts, it can boost our confidence and lead to bolder actions and decisions.

An optimistic outlook can help us make better decisions by allowing us to think more clearly and rationally, especially during crucial moments in our lives. It’s vital to train our minds to think positively so that we can create a successful and happy life.

The Impact of Negative Thinking:

Your imagination is such a powerful tool, however sometimes you might use it in a way that causes you problems. Perhaps running obstacles and problems around and around in your head, imagining all the negative outcomes and making it feel hard to move forward.

Negative thinking can cause us to catastrophise and magnify problems so we might feel like nothing is working out. Of course, that’s not true, but it can seem that way and lead to feeling upset, disappointed or frustrated. These emotions can tie us up in knots and prevent us from going all in on our goals.

Even if we try to put on a positive smile, people can sense a negative mindset.

A Personal Story:

Let me share a personal story that illustrates the power of positive thinking. I was in the middle of a live launch that was a big investment for me both financially and emotionally. The week started off terribly when I woke up with a horrible cold on Monday morning. On top of that, one of my children woke me up and wouldn’t go back to sleep the night before, leaving me exhausted. And to top it off my LED lights for the live video were making it look like I was at a rave, and I had to run around fetching lamps to solve the problem.

These were all small issues, but they made me feel like everything was going against me. If I had chosen to, I could have let myself feel like I had a big problem and started imagining it all going wrong.

Instead, I told myself that these things weren’t a big deal and that I could make a success of the launch because I’m great at what I do. And with this mindset, I felt excited and motivated, and my chances of success were far higher.

What To Do If You Struggle To Maintain A Positive Mindset:

If you struggle to keep a positive mindset, this is normal! We’ve an inbuilt negativity bias. But, what most people don’t realise is that you can change this. It’s a default mode. I see this all the time, as I support clients to overcome this in my 121 Coaching Plan, and the results are incredible.

By overcoming this and adopting a positive mindset, it helps them to achieve their goals and targets with ease and faster than ever before. All whilst feeling a deep sense of inner peace.

Practical Steps for Adopting a Positive Mindset:

To cultivate a positive mindset, we need to change the way we speak to ourselves and the way we use our imagination.

Here are my top positive thinking techniques and tips

1) Visualise Your Success

Visualising success helps you achieve your goals. When you can see yourself achieving your goals, you’re more motivated to work towards them. Visualise yourself completing that project, winning that contract, or achieving any other goal you have set. When you can see it in your mind, it becomes more real and more achievable.

2) Carefully Choose The Words You Use

The words we use influence our thoughts and actions. Recognising when you’re using negative self-talk and replacing it with positive language is essential. Instead of saying, “I’m not sure if I can do this,” try saying, “I am capable, and I will succeed.” When we use positive self-talk, we empower and motivate ourselves to move forward and take action.

3) Incorporating Positive Habits

In addition to changing your thoughts and inner dialogue, it’s crucial to incorporate positive habits into your routine.

Practicing gratitude is an excellent way to focus on the positive aspects of our lives. When we focus on what we’re grateful for, we’re less likely to dwell on the negatives.

Surrounding ourselves with positive people and being in positive environments can also significantly impact our mindset. When surrounded by positivity, it’s easier to maintain an optimistic outlook.
